As the saying goes, closed mouths don’t get fed! To excel in your career and grow as an individual, it’s time to get comfortable with speaking up for yourself and being your own biggest cheerleader.
If you're hesitant to speak up or present yourself, start with finding out why. Ask yourself: why am I unsure about this? Is it a lack of confidence, self doubt or something else? When you explore the reasons behind this, you're then able to look into how best to overcome them.
It's critical to be clear about what you're expecting to achieve next in your career. Is it a promotion? And if so, what type of role are you interested in and what skills and strengths will you take to that role? By creating your 'Career Journal' with these important expectations and considerations; you're now better equipped to advocate for yourself.
Taking the time to focus and write down your goals and create a plan is the first step to achieving them. Once you have a better picture of the path, don’t be afraid to ask someone you trust to help. Practice a conversation with them to help you get ready.
