If you are new to your leadership development process, or just committed to your growth - keep reading. Let’s go over some common mistakes leaders are making and how you can correct them. All you need is awareness, listening, and a bit of awareness and the willingness to try out a new approach.

  1. Holding back feedback. You might avoid giving feedback, either out of discomfort or because you don’t have time. Remember that feedback is vital for employee development and you may be missing the opportunity to encourage your team to grow. The more you do it, the more you get better.
  2. Avoiding difficult conversations. This is completely normal - no one likes addressing poor performance or contentious situations. But it could allow negativity to fester and grow. It’s better to tackle challenges promptly, openly, and problem solve together.
  3. Failing to define goals. You may assume your team knows what’s expected of them. But change is a constant - roles and responsibilities shift with time. Take the time to provide role clarity and define goals to both new hires and seasoned team members. Your team should be crystal clear about expectations and goals.
